Walgreens Announces Charity Partners for LPGA Legends Tournament in Delray Beach

The Walgreens Charity Classic, presented by The Seagate Country Club, is set for November 6-9, 2014 in Delray Beach. It will showcase the talents of 48 former LPGA Tour stars now playing The Legends Tour, the official senior tour of the LPGA. The four-day event will also raise funds for three area charities: The Dan Marino Foundation (DMF), Achievement Centers for Children & Families (ACCF), and Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse (ADVA).

“We are excited to bring world-class golf to Delray Beach and to help these great charities in doing so,” said Roger Lemke, District Manager for Walgreens. “All ticket proceeds will support our charity partners. We will begin selling tournament tickets in our stores on September 15. Customers can save $5 off gate pricing by purchasing in advance at Walgreens.”

Tournament rounds will be held at The Seagate Country Club on Saturday, November 8 and Sunday, November 9. Donations for the charity partners will be accepted at the gate both days. Information and representatives from each charity will be on site to increase awareness of the programs and the services they provide.

“The Dan Marino Foundation shares a common pride with Walgreen’s in helping young people with special needs fulfill their dreams. We are so appreciative of their including us as a beneficiary of this exciting LPGA event,” said Mary Partin, CEO, The Dan Marino Foundation. For over 22 years, the Foundation has served individuals with disabilities in South Florida through therapies, research, education, and employment, and raised more than $47 million to create unique and impactful initiatives in the community.

ACCF is a community-based organization dedicated to serving low-income children and families. ACCF’s mission is to ensure school readiness, provide skill-building opportunities, promote academic achievement, and support healthy lifestyles.

“For the Achievement Centers, it is quite an honor to be one of the charity partners with the LPGA for this prestigious golf tournament,” said CEO Stephanie Seibel. “We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity afforded not only to the greater Delray Beach area through this fantastic event, but to our agency which serves our area’s most vulnerable community members.”

AVDA provides a Community of Hope through a state-certified domestic violence center that offers a comprehensive array of services for all victims of domestic violence, including 24-hour crisis hotline, emergency and transitional housing, advocacy, counseling, and support to help them live violence-free and self-sufficient lives. “We are pleased and honored to have been selected as one of the charity partners with the LPGA Legends,” said Pam O’Brien, President and CEO. “AVDA is grateful for the opportunity to raise awareness about domestic abuse.  Domestic violence is a devastating problem that does not discriminate. It cuts across all religious, economic, and racial lines and requires everyone’s attention and support.”

Active members of The Legends Tour include a dozen Hall of Famers, including Nancy Lopez, Pat Bradley, and Beth Daniel, as well as LPGA Tour standouts Rosie Jones, Jan Stephenson, Meg Mallon, and others. Five-time Legends Tour champion Nancy Scranton of St. Augustine, Fla. won the 2013 Walgreens Charity Championship at The Villages and plans to defend her title at Seagate in November.

Following final-round action on Sunday, Lemke and his Walgreens team will present each charity with a check on the 18th green, representing funds raised by the event. “We will crown the tournament champion and celebrate the continued work of the DMF, ACCF, and AVDA,” said Lemke.
