Love is in the air and on the menu at the Atlantic Grille this Valentine’s Day! Chef Adam Gottlieb has thoughtfully created a selection of specials fit for passion and meant to spark romance with every bite. Although aphrodisiacs haven’t been scientifically proven, there are foods that have been around for centuries that are thought to increase sexual desire and prowess. Some foods have stimulating properties, others are psychologically suggestive, and some can actually increase hormone levels and energy. You may have already heard about chocolate and oysters, but did you know that asparagus and garlic are also considered aphrodisiacs?
This year, Chef Gottlieb is including two or more “love potion” ingredients in each dish, which are written in bold in the descriptions. On Friday, February 14, the appetizer options will be porcini risotto with black truffle, mascarpone, arugula, and shaved parmesan ($15); or the crab & fennel salad with shaved beets, avocado, and blood oranges ($16). For the entrées, choose the open-faced lobster ravioli with artichoke, tomato, asparagus, and tarragon ($38); or the espresso-rubbed ribeye with roasted carrots and garlic-mashed potatoes in a port-wine sauce ($44).
Things will really start to heat up during the dessert course, where most of the ingredients are said to trigger vitality. Strawberries & cream honey sabayon coupled with a fresh pastry, or chocolate ganache, mint, and toasted almonds ($9) are sure to make a lasting impression.
The Seagate Country Club will also be hosting a prix fixe three-course candlelight dinner for $47.95 per person, with reservations available on the half hour from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Enjoy imported cheeses, pâté, and olives during the hors d’oeuvres course. For starters, the beef consommé is paired with tomato concassé, French basil, and crostini; or try the watercress & jicama salad with grapefruit, and grilled goat cheese in a red-wine vinaigrette. Salmon roulades, stuffed crab-crusted filet mignon and roasted free-range chicken are headlining the entrées with their side dishes. Save room for dessert and indulge in lava cake accompanied by raspberry sauce, vanilla ice cream, and fresh mint.
